SIXTIES BOMBSHELL – the beauty way forward this season
Every fashion season throws up a myriad of looks, and leaves us spoilt for choice. Which to choose, and which to discard? When you are in our twenties you can get away with anything! However, once you get past that stage you want a look that says you are fashion savvy and makes you appear your very best at the same time. It’s a fine line. There are some trends I will have a go at this summer, like an orange, matt lip. There are some which are modern takes on past trends, like the new nude. My favourite is absolutely Tom Ford’s take on the Sixties bombshell – a smoky eye never hurt anyone’s beauty look. This summer, though, for me, is about getting the groundwork right with great hair, great skin, and new products which are really doing their job effectively.
SO HERE ARE MY TOP TEN PRODUCTS FOR SPRING/SUMMER 2013……..
BY BOBBI BROWN
This is the ultimate in luxury skin brightening and highlighting, and yet again Bobbi Brown leads the way. Packed full of moisturising ingredients to add to the glowing effect you can also used ‘shades’ individually. I will use this all summer long with my fabulous Bobbi Brown Powder Brush. A brilliant, versatile buy.
CHRISTIAN DIOR NUDE BB CREAM IN SHADE 3 (£30)
When it comes to all things foundation, I am traditionally a Chanel girl, but this super-creme has really won me over. As a skin conditioner and a skin finisher, it has a light texture but gives excellent coverage. It feels supremely fresh on the skin and is perfect for my medium tone. An innovation well worth the investment.
FAKE BAKE GOLD SELF TAN (£30)
Recently featured in the Sunday Times STYLE magazine as being the way forward for super-luxe, upmarket tanning. Kiss goodbye to tanning disasters of the past as this is a golden treat in a bottle. I use the Fake Bake Passion Fruit Body Polish first to create a smooth base, and layer this one for a just got back from St. Barths glow. The easy-to-see colour guide means I can tan without missing a bit, and the product is packed of skincare ingredients and anti-oxidants to really care for your skin. If you find self-tans a little drying on the skin, then this is the tan for you!
ILLAMASQUA NAIL VARNISH SPECKLED LILAC (£14.50)
I have always been a Chanel Le Vernis girl, but I tried Illamasqua polishes last year and have never looked back. I love their new Speckle range and this Lilac is my favourite. Of course, these products have a fashion edge but they are also brilliant at doing their job – this polish glides on easily, the colour consistency is great, and it stays on until you decide to take it off. A little piece of fashion heaven!
TOM FORD EYE QUARTET IN SAHARA DAZE (£62)
Tom Ford Beauty is all about opulence and I shall be using this quartet to re-create Ford’s Sixties eye! All of the shades have a luxury finish for an intense effect that lasts for ever. As always, the packaging is sublime. New to Harvey Nichols Beauty Bazaar Liverpool – worth a visit for a little piece of Tom Ford fabulousness!
CHARLES WORTHINGTON DIAMOND SHINE GLASS TREATMENT (£12.99)
Charles Worthington is the ultimate A-list go-to guy for glossy, red-carpet hair, and used this on the stars for the recent BAFTAs. I will be using this to boost the shine of my coloured hair and make it smoother this season. After trying this product I was really impressed – with superior results and packaging the price is a really bonus!
CLARINS DOUBLE SERUM (£55)
Clarins was my very first foray into premium skincare when I turned eighteen and I still swear by it! This super-serum is a seriously intensive, anti-ageing treatment packed with Clarins’ legendary plant extracts. After using this for a few weeks my skin is already looking brighter and smoother. I have been won over and think this is the skin investment of the season!
DIOR NAIL GLOW IN CHERIE BOW (£18)
I love nail art and keeping up with all of the latest trends, even the crazy ones, but for everyday wear I do love a natural look in the summer. This is a super nail treatment product that gives nails a pink, healthy finish. Just the ticket for a manicure in a hurry!
MAC IN EXTREME DIMENSION LASH MASCARA (£18)
The mascara to beat all mascaras in the new Carbon shade. It has a specially designed brush with micro-fibres to deliver an amazing product, to give your lashes a super-full effect, even if they are on the skinny side, like mine!
ESTEE LAUDER ADVANCED TIME ZONE (£53)
I have been using the same moisturiser for a long time and finding a new one that really makes you want to change over is difficult, but this one by Estee Lauder has ecouraged me to make a switch. Firstly, it has a broad spectrum SP15 which is vital for this season, and every season. Secondly, it left my skin feeling seriously hydrated. There is a reason why this brand wins of tons of skincare awards – their investment in technology and results is second to none. I love it!
